The topic of the 2021-2022 Citizenship Essay Contest is: Stranger in a strange world

ELIGIBLE COMPETITORS: Any student under 21 who is enrolled as a full-time student in any high school -- public, private or parochial, in which the Civitan Club is sponsoring the contest -- is eligible and urged to compete. In this instance all high schools within the Plymouth-Canton School District are eligible. Essays must be written by the student him/herself although ideas may be sought from all the sources.

ESSAY REQUIREMENTS:

● The typed and double spaced essay should contain no fewer than 500 words and no more than 1200 words. ● The final essay will be submitted in one PDF file with the essay’s title at the top of every page, without name or additional information. This PDF file must be entitled the name of the essay.

● The cover sheet will be submitted in a second PDF file, providing the following personal information: name, address, home phone number, title of the essay, high school attending, year of graduation and Plymouth-Canton Civitan Club. This PDF file must be entitled the name of the contestant.

WRITING SUGGESTIONS: This is a creative essay. The major factors taken into account are originality of thought and writing craft, so consider narrative structure, figurative language, imagery, character development, and other techniques. Other factors taken into account are sentence structure, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization. Polish your essay through the writing process, peer editing, and conferencing with your teachers.
