Find out what's happening in Plymouth-Cantonfor free with the latest updates from Patch.
I hope that you all enjoying the long weekend for Midwinter Break.
As you saw from a communication from Superintendent Merritt last Thursday, the Wayne County Health Department issued a notice stating that it has lifted its Emergency Order requiring face masks in educational settings. This is in response to the updated masking guidance from MDHHS and the declining COVID-19 infection rates in our state, Wayne County and in our district.

In accordance with this announcement, P-CCS families and staff may make individual choices regarding masking based on their own circumstances. P-CCS will support students and staff members in their choice to wear a mask or not, while in school or participating in after school activities. There will be zero tolerance for bullying about mask choice in our school environment.
There are, however, two areas where masks will still be required:
-
The federal mask requirement remains in place for transportation which includes school buses. Therefore, staff and students will continue to be required to wear masks while on school buses.
-
MDHHS guidance for individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 allows a return to work/school after the 5th day if there are no worsening symptoms. The individual may return on the 6th day, but must mask to stay through Day 10.
P-CCS will continue to follow our layered mitigation strategies in order to minimize transmission in our schools. Included in our strategies are frequent hand washing and the use of hand sanitizer. Our schools have an adequate supply of Personal Protective Equipment, including masks (KN95 for adults, and disposable for adults and children), available to students and staff upon request. Families and staff are still required to use the COVID-19 Screening Tool prior to arriving at school buildings each day and are urged to stay home if they feel sick.
P-CCS, in conjunction with the Wayne County Health Department, will continue offering vaccination clinics for our school community. The next vaccination clinic will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 23 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Canton High School (across from the main office, park by the flagpole) Pre-registration is required by clicking here.
While the decline in transmission rates is a positive sign in our ongoing battle with COVID-19, I want to urge everyone to remain diligent in helping prevent the spread of this virus. We have seen fluctuations in the infection rate in the past, and it is important that we work together to ensure we are able to provide in-person learning as we have successfully done since the beginning of the school year.
As always, we make all decisions based on the health and safety of our students and staff. Thank you so much for your ongoing support as we navigate this everchanging pandemic.

Student Code of Conduct
At the beginning of each year, we provide a copy of our P-CCS K-12 Student Handbook. I am resending this document as reminder for our parents to continue to support their young learners at home about making choices that leave a positive mark on our school community.
It is not uncommon for children to make choices without thinking about the impact and consequences of their actions. A great example is the use of threatening language. Threatening language of any kind is treated very seriously with a range of consequences including exclusion from school. Please remind your children about the importance of thinking about the words they use, and how those words impact their community.

DISTRICT NEWS:
P-CCS Vaccination Clinic:
P-CCS, in conjunction with the Wayne County Health Department, will offer another vaccination clinic for the community on Wednesday, February 23, from 3:30 to 5:30 PM at Canton High School (across from the main office, park by the flagpole).
Pre-registration is required by clicking here. For those who received their first dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine at the vaccination clinic on January 24th (including those 5-11 years old), you may receive your second dose at this clinic on February 23rd. It will not be too late.
Transition to Weekly Case Identification Letters:
Starting this week all P-CCS families will receive weekly COVID-19 case identification letters informing them of positive cases in their child’s school. This letter is similar to those sent this school year and also will contain information about what parents should do should they suspect their child is ill. As always, the best policy is for students and staff to stay at home if they don’t feel well. P-CCS continues to posts daily confirmed cases of COVID-19 on its website at: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1psL7QHLT8-W_Acy0nXPTSpQ4cpkTGR2eEU_SAPi9RTc/edit#gid=497318926

P-CCS Annual Budget Feedback Survey:
As the P-CCS Board of Education has done annually, it is again seeking community input on programs and activities that would reduce cost, increase revenue, increase enrollment, or identify areas of investment that could improve service for consideration in the annual General Fund budget planning process. P-CCS will launch the annual Budget Feedback Survey for community members on Friday, February 11 via the official district website (www.pccsk12.com) and social media outlets. The survey will remain open until Friday, February 25. Survey findings will be presented and discussed during the Board’s budget process at a Regular Meeting later this year.
