Traffic Light Coming For Dangerous Intersection

The intersection of McClumpha and Ann Arbor roads will soon get a traffic signal. Numerous accidents prompted the move.

PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, MI — A dangerous Plymouth Township intersection will soon be getting a traffic signal. The traffic signal is located at the intersection of McClumpha Road and Ann Arbor Road. The intersection project will be aided with $1 million from the newly signed state budget.

“I have been contacted by a lot of community members with their concerns, and I am proud to bring this project to the forefront of the Department of Transportation,” said State Rep Jeff Noble, a Plymouth Republican. Noble and fellow State Rep. Laura Cox helped secure funding for the project.

“As the House Appropriations chair I worked with Rep. Noble to identify this problem and ensure that this was addressed by the department of transportation,” said Rep. Cox, of Livonia. “This investment to Plymouth Township will prevent accidents from occurring in the future and protect our residents.”

The T-shaped intersection has no turn lanes, creating safety concerns. There is also a large influx of traffic due to a nearby shopping mall. Between 2012-2016, there have been 36 total accidents at the intersection, 23 of them T-boned or head-on collisions.
