Xanax, Marijuana Recovered in Traffic Stop in Canton

Man charged on drug possession charges, as well as charge of driving while under the influence of drugs.

Canton Township Police stopped a driver of a black Jeep Liberty on March 8 for swerving in his lane on eastbound Warren Avenue, according to a police report.

According to the report, the driver had a blank stare, bloodshot eyes and saliva built up around his mouth, had slurred speech and was unable to produce his license, registration or proof of insurance.

The officer spotted loose marijuana in the driver’s door handle, along with a “one-hitter” pipe used for smoking marijuana, the report indicated.

Police arrested the man on a charge of marijuana possession, according to the report.

When the officer searched the vehicle, he found a plastic baggie of what he believed to be marijuana, as well as a plastic bag of 2 1/3 pills that he believed to be Xanax or a generic equivalent, the report indicated.

After the man failed a field sobriety test, the officer also cited the man on a charge of driving while under the influence of drugs, according to the report.

One substance collected by the officer tested positive as marijuana, while the other tested positive as Alprazolam, commercially known as Xanax.
