Suspect Arraigned In Cat's Beating Death

A Rochester Hills man has been charged with a four-year felony after he allegedly beat a cat to death with a hammer.

(UPDATED) ROCHESTER HILLS - A 33-year-old Rochester Hills man has been charged with Killing/Torturing an Animal — a 4 year felony — after allegedly beating his roommate’s cat to death with a hammer. David Hu was arraigned at 52-3 District Court in Rochester Hills Friday. He was given a $100,000 cash bond and ordered no contact with the complainant, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s office

Hu is scheduled for a probable cause conference on Aug. 16. The cat’s owner tried to intervene and stop the beating, but was pushed away, the Sheriff’s Office stated in a news release.

“Police responded to the 700 block of Machette Court, where they found the suspect, a 33-year-old male, in his bedroom with the dead cat at his feet and a bloody hammer nearby.”
"Deputies were able to take the responsible into custody without incident," according to a news release from Oakland County Sheriff's Office.
