Honor Martin Luther King, Jr. this upcoming MLK Day on Monday, January 17th, by attending an event, in-person or virtually, or participating in a day of service. Observed as a national day of service, Martin Luther King Jr. Day encourages all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.

Learn more about the MLK Day of Service on their website, where you can also search for volunteer opportunities or register a project. Additionally, the United Way and Volunteer Match have additional resources and opportunities to make it a “day on, not a day off.”

January 17: Free admission on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day at the Cranbrook Institute of Science from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

January 5-14: Sign making for the march on Jan. 17: Stop in the children’s departments at either library location during open hours and make a sign for the march on Jan. 17.

January 17: Celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. with a full day of events, starting with a march down 12 Mile Rd. at 11 a.m.

January 17: MLK Family Day at Painting with a Twist from 1-3 p.m.

January 17: MLK Serve Day 2022 at Brightmoor Christian Church from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

January 17: 30th annual Keeper of the Dream Scholarship Awards Celebration featuring Emmy and Golden Globe nominated actor Anthony Anderson at the O’Rena at Oakland University from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

January 17:  “A Day On, Not A Day Off” – Martin Luther King Jr. Ceremony and Freedom Walk starting at 9:30 a.m.

January 17:  Drive for Freedom, Justice and Equity at the Hope United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. The drive is limited to the first 250 registered vehicles. All participants must pre-register at eventbrite.com by Friday, January 7, 2022. The virtual program starts at 1 p.m.

January 16: United We Walk 28th Annual Event at West Bloomfield High School at 1 p.m.

January 17: MLK Jr. Day: Give us the Ballot event at the Detroit Historical Museum from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

January 17: Free Admission to the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

January 17: MLK Day Celebration at the Charles H. Wright Museum from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

January 17: King: A Filmed Record…From Montgomery to Memphis at DIA at 1 p.m.

January 17: MLK Memorial Ride 2022 at Cullen Plaza at 1 p.m.

January 17: Mass for Justice and Peace at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament at 11 a.m.

January 17: Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration at 10 a.m. on the city Facebook page

January 17: 23rd annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Virtual Celebration at 6 p.m.

January 17: Novi Public Library MLK Virtual Unity Celebration at 11 a.m.

January 17: Celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. with a full day of virtual events, starting at noon with a Farmington IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Acceptance) Panel Discussion on Zoom.

January 17:  The 2022 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Celebration virtual program starts at 1 p.m.
