Oakland County's Top Burger Belongs To Redcoat Tavern: Reviewers

Yelp reviewers say Royal Oak's Redcoat Tavern has the best burger in the county. Do you agree?

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — So, just who has the best burger in Oakland County? It’s a subjective endeavor to be sure, but we were curious and found at least one guide to some of the county’s best joints through the review site Yelp. Here’s what we found:

  1. Redcoat Tavern, 31542 Woodward Avenue, Royal Oak - Granted a four star rating out of five by 815 Yelp reviewers, the restaurant has long been noted for its delicious hamburgers. “I got the classic burger and added sharp American, as the Thrillist reviewer did, and it was delicious,” wrote Liz P. in a June 19 review. “I'm not sure if it's the BEST burger I've ever had (I tend to prefer thin/crumbly burgers, vs. huge ones though) but it's up there. The 'special sauce' was reminiscent of In-N-Out's, and I also added grilled onions. The burger is also very large - I could have probably just eaten half and been full, but burgers tend not to keep well for lunch the next day.”
  2. Luxe Bar & Grille, 525, N. Old Woodward, Birmingham — Reviewers also gave a four star ranking to another Woodward Avenue restaurant. “I ordered the BBQ Bacon burger, and as suggested by other reviewers, ordered the mixed fries,” Wrote Matt R. of Madison Heights in an April 9 review. “The burger was awesome- cooked perfectly, awesome bun, solid bacon, and whatever their sauce they use on the bun adds a ton of flavor.
  3. Beau’s Grillery, 4108 W. Maple, Bloomfield Hills - Rated at 3.5 stars, the eatery draws solid marks for its burgers and many other dishes. “My go-to combo is the blackened bleu burger with a side of their loaded mashed potatoes,” wrote Dari J. of Southfield on a May 6 review. “I know it's nothing fancy, but my taste buds always thank me.”
  4. Hunter House Hamburgers, 35075 Woodward Avenue, Birmingham - Another 3.5-star ranking. If you like sliders, this is the joint to visit. “Real sliders (if you're thinking white castle, think bigger, better, and more satisfying) with melt in your mouth fried onions and crispy fries,” wrote Todd M. of Indiana, Pa. in a April 19 review. “What I wasn't expecting? The great service, the friendly people, the burger customization, and that I now have to deal with the fact that my new favorite greasy burger joint is almost 300 miles from where I live.”
  5. Motor City Burgers, 44911 Woodward Avenue, Pontiac - “The burger has good beef-flavor and was served hot with nicely melted cheddar,” wrote Dour R. of West Bloomfield. He gave the restaurant 3.5 stars. “The veggies were fresh and crisp.”
