A Metro Detroit solider who lost his life to PTSD will be laid to rest with Full Military Honors.

ROCHESTER, MI — Funeral arrangements have been made for a metropolitan Detroit soldier who lost his battle with post traumatic stress disorder. The body of David Folsom was found July 19 near the area of Cooley Lake and Hiller roads after he had gone missing from his Waterford Township home a week earlier. Folsom served in the Army National Guard, including numerous overseas assignments, for more than 20 years.
Folsom, who was 54, will be laid to rest with Full Military Honors on Aug. 7. A memorial visitation will be held that day at The River Church in Holly. Internment will be at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
Folsom was still active in the Army National Guard at the time of his passing, serving as a Master Sergeant at the Higher Head Quarters, 177th Armory in Taylor. His most recent deployment was in Afghanistan in 2011. But he had also spent time Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in his long tenure with the Army National Guard.

“On behalf of our entire family we wish to thank everyone who participated or contributed in any way to the searches or perhaps by just thinking or praying for us.” she wrote. “How so we had wished that the outcome could have been different we now need to honor our hero, David Folsom.”
In lieu of flowers, Mirovsky-Folsom asked that donations be made “for the future education/medical costs of our children and PTSD support.” A GoFundMe account had raised $6,315 as of Monday morning.
When he wasn’t serving his country, David Folsom worked at TNG Worldwide as a senior wholesale account manager. His funeral and services are being coordinated by The Lewis E. Wint Funeral Home. Folsom was remembered by several people on the funeral home’s website.
“Dave (Big Daddy)Folsom, RIP in peace my friend,” wrote Stephen Schmoock of Shelby Township. “Be our warrior Angel and watch over us until it our time to join our brothers and sisters. You will be missed.”
Randy Payne of St. Petersburg, Florida said he was at a loss for words. “Belinda and family I may be far away, but you will and have always been in my heart,” he wrote on the Wint Funeral Home website. “I have heard nothing but great stuff about David and to hear the news, I don’t know what to say.”
