Arts, Beats & Eats Producer: 'We Love This City'

Arts, Beats & Eats producer, John Witz, thanks Royal Oak city officials and residents.

Before MC Hammer took the Michigan Lottery National Stage on Monday, Arts, Beats & Eats Director Jon Witz thanked Royal Oak residents, Mayor Jim Ellison, and the City Commission.

"Also, for keeping us safe all weekend long, we've got to give it up for Royal Oak Police," Witz said. "Great job men and women - incident-free for the 16th year in a row," he added.

Witz then asked the crowd of more than 5,000 to put their hands up if they were from Royal Oak.

"Everyone from Royal Oak, thank you for letting us be here," Witz said. "We love this city."

With that announcement, MC Hammer heated up the crowd. His performance was a high note that ended an up-and-down weekend for the festival, which began with high heat and a rip-roaring storm on Friday that closed the festival one hour early and hurt attendance. Monday the weather flip-flopped and cool temps brought big crowds.

"I don't have all the numbers yet, but this may be our biggest Monday ever," Witz said Monday night.
