Golf Range Price Hikes Considered By Royal Oak
Prices could jump by as much as $1 per bucket of balls at at the Royal Oak Golf Center.
ROYAL OAK, MI — Practicing your game at the Royal Oak Golf Center may soon become a little more pricey. On Monday, the City Commission will consider a request to increase prices by up to a dollar per bucket of golf balls.
If approved, medium and large buckets would jump by $1, a jumbo bucket would increase by 75 cents and a small bucket by 25 cents. Public Services and Recreation Director Greg Rassel requested the rate increases, saying recent significant upgrades at the facility make additional revenue necessary.
“The Royal Oak Golf Center has made a significant investment in the property; adding additional heated tees, a picnic shelter and renovating the putt-putt course,” Rassel wrote in a March 15 letter to City Manager Donald Johnson. “These improvements will enhance the customer’s recreational experience.”

Recommendations for such increases usually come from the city’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. But Rassel said the board didn’t meet in March because it failed to have a quorum. He asked the Commission to take up the matter due to “time sensitivity.”
Proposed rate changes would make a small bucket of golf balls $5.50, medium $9, large $11 and jumbo $16. Miniature golf would also go up from $4.75 to $5.25 for juniors and seniors while adults would jump 50 cents to $7.25.
