LA Fitness Hit By Locker Room Thefts

Four gym goers at the Woodward Avenue fitness facility had wallets and other valuables stolen from their lockers.

ROYAL OAK, MI — A rash of thefts from the locker room of a Woodward Avenue fitness facilities is under investigation by the Royal Oak Police Department, according to Lt. Keith Spencer. Wallets were stolen from four LA Fitness customers with cash, credit cards and personal identification information taken from each, according to police reports.

Three of thefts occurred on Oct. 27 between 5:15 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The fourth incident was on Oct. 29 between 4 - 5 p.m. and, again, credit/debit cards, cash and identification information was stolen.

“It happens on occasion at various locations,” Spencer said of the thefts. He said gym goers should consider storing important items in alternative locations. “Leave your high-dollar valuable stuff at home. If you leave it in your car, keep it out of view. The less visible things are, the more it reduces break-ins.”
