Marie Donigan Presents Land Conservancy to Royal Oak Dems
Donigan to present information on North Oakland Headwaters Land Conservancy mission on Apr. 6.

Former State Rep. Marie Donigan, Executive Director of the Springfield Township-based North Oakland Headwaters Land Conservancy (NOHLC), will present information about NOHLC’s mission to protect the headwaters of the Clinton, Flint, Huron and Shiawassee Rivers to the Royal Oak Area Democratic Club.
“The work of NOHLC is particularly important for South Oakland County because the Clinton River and its subwatershed, Red Run, are in our backyards”, said Donigan. “Protecting the headwaters from erosion, agricultural run-off and pollution ensures clean water downstream for future generations. The way we use our land determines the condition of our water. When it rains, suburban development upstream results in higher river flows than we see in natural watersheds, which is why the work of NOHLC is so important.”
For 40 years NOHLC has been preserving open space in Northwest Oakland County. The conservancy, which has been accredited by the Land Trust Alliance, has preserved more than 1,400 acres, in six townships and two counties.

“Protecting and enhancing our water resource is the responsibility of everyone in our watershed,” said Donigan. “Conservation and land preservation requires the coordinated involvement and effort of individuals, businesses, governments, and organizations throughout the watershed. We’re eager to get all watershed residents interested in our land preservation projects.”
