Michigan Police Ranked The Most Overworked In America
Find out why Michigan officers are hustling so hard.

ROYAL OAK, MI — Michigan cops are shustling harder than cops in any other state, according to a new survey by SafeWise, a community-focused safety organization.
Researchers determined the rankings of the most overworked police officers per 1,000 people by analyzing 2014 FBI crime figures, Census statistics, and factors linked with crime including police tactics, poverty, population density, and demographics.
So, what makes Michigan cops just so busy? It boils down to their caseloads. Here's the math behind it: There were 23,179 officers tasked with handling 630,000 crimes statewide in 2014. That means the average Michigan officer's workload is 28 crimes a year. That might not seem like a big number, but it adds up big-time when you factor in all of the time and legwork needed to speak with witnesses, write reports, testify in court and solve crimes, according to the study.
