Normandy Oaks Development May Include Splash Pad
A city task force is reviewing development options for the new public park at the former Normandy Oaks golf course.

A city task force working to develop Normandy Oak golf course into a new public park is trying to decide whether the city can afford a splash pad there, and how such a structure would affect over all development. Nowak & Fraus Engineers, the projects contractor, offered two sets of preliminary renderings of the new park, one with a splash pad and one without. City Commissioner Melanie Macey, who serves on the task force, says she’s likely the lone member of the 5-person force who wants a water feature at the new park.
“I think I’m in the minority on the task force in favoring a splash pad and I don’t see a lot of change in that,” Macey told the Daily Tribune. The City Commission oversees the task force and the project and will decide what to include in the final project. Costs for developing the 40-acre site were underestimated in original planning. Nowak & Fraus say the $3 million put aside for the project wouldn’t even en enough to fund the path and parking lot needed to make the area into a park. The contractors say it may take twice that amount to make a workable public park.
Both plans offered by Nowak & Fraus include park paths (paved and unpaved), picnic tables, rest rooms, two soccer fields and a sledding hill.
