Elementary School Open Houses, Bluegrass Festival and More

There's a lot going on in Royal Oak this week. What do you have planned?

It's a busy week in Royal Oak, as usual. Here are five things you should know as you go about your week:

  1. Elementary school open houses this week: Royal Oak Schools will host Elementary Open Houses at each of the District’s six elementary schools April 10-24. Click here for the schedule.
  2. Planning Commission meets Tuesday: The Planning Commission meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall. Click here for the agenda.
  3. Nature Society speaker program on Wednesday: The  program begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Royal Oak Middle School. Although frequently a source of controversy, wolves are a valuable keystone species, and have inspired many legends and well-known stories.  Join Stephanie Schneider, Yellowstone National Park Interpretive Ranger, to discover why this highly social animal is essential to Yellowstone's ecosystem. This event is free and open to the public.
  4. School board meeting Thursday: Royal Oak Schools Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. inside board offices at 1123 Lexington Blvd. Click here for the agenda.
  5. Gardenia Bluegrass & Roots Festival on Saturday: The festival from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Royal Oak Farmers’ Market features the musical talents of Greensky Bluegrass, Whiskey Shivers, Lindsay Lou & the Flatbellys, and the Appleseed Collective. This debut Bluegrass & Brew Festival will benefit Camp Casey, a Royal Oak charity that provides a horseback riding program for children with cancer. Tickets are on sale now, please call the Farmers’ Market at 248.246.3276 for information.
