Royal Oak Books to Close its Doors After 25 Years

Royal Oak Books has been a fixture in the community for years, but the business will soon be closing its doors.

The shop, which holds 60,000 books, will close after years of slow sales, the owner say is because of the digital movement, reported the Detroit News. The article stated owner Pat Jonas opened her first book store in Berkley in 1979 and opened Royal Oak Books a few years later.

One big blow to the store happened in Dec. 2011, Royal Oak Patch reported, when a man and woman entered the store and grabbed more than . The couple ran out of the store and fled the scene.

The shop was open seven days a week, specializing in new and used hard cover, paperback books and magazines.

Many people shared their disappointment about the closing on the Royal Oak Patch Facebook Page.

Anita Dwyer posted, "No! I'll never get a Kindle or a Nook or another tablet reader. There is nothing quite as great as holding a book, new or old, in your hand and turning each page as you go."

Mary Chapman commented, "As long as books are printed, will never do digital."
