Royal Oak Home Builders Beware: Don't Leave A Messy Work Site
A new Royal Oak law will levy fines against builders that leave untidy construction sites.
ROYAL OAK, MI — Builders and home flippers in Royal Oak beware: The city isn’t going tolerate you being bad neighbors anymore. An updated city ordinance will allow for fines on builders that leave debris, muddied and closed sidewalks, or locate portable toilets too close to residences. Repeated offenses can land offenders in jail for 90 days, according to an Oakland Press report.
“It’s going to clean up these neighborhood (disturbances) and put an end to it,” said City Commissioner Dave Poulton, who led the call for updating Royal Oak’s construction site code along with City Commissioner Jeremy Mahrle.
City Commissioner Patricia Paruch warns the city will need to have enough enforcement if the construction site ordinance update is to be effective. “Until we beef up enforcement we’re still going to have problems with builders that are bad actors,” she said.
