The city of Royal Oak opened a new parking deck today, announcing the launch in a Facebook post. City commissioners approved plans for the newly open seven-story parking structure in Nov. 2016. The project’s $15.5 million price tag was covered by the city auto parking fund and the Downtown Development Authority, to be paid off over 20 years. The 75,000-square-foot garage has 550 parking spaces.
The Facebook post touts views from the new building, which look impressive - if chilly - in photos. “The brand new Center Street parking deck opened today at 11:30 am. Views from the top are pretty cool,” the statement reads. “As with all parking decks in downtown Royal Oak, the first two hours of parking are free when you arrive before 5:00 pm, so head on down for lunch.”
