
Thursday marked the area’s tenth day high temperatures below 20 degrees. With wind expected tomorrow, temperatures may fall as low as -20 degrees in some parts of the region, leading Royal Oak Schools to cancel all classes tomorrow.
According to the schools’ Twitter account, “Tomorrow, January 5, 2018, all schools in the Royal Oak Schools district are closed due to unusually low temperatures. This includes all school events. After ten days of arctic blast temperatures, schools across Metro Detroit and beyond are already announcing closures for tomorrow. Temperatures have hovered around zero for nearly two weeks, causing two tragic deaths as two elderly women with demential wandered into the snow and succumbed to exposure in the cold in Roseville and Shelby Township.
