Royal Oak Sells Last Plot Of Downtown Land For $2.5 Million

The 4.1 acre plot of land is the southern gateway to Royal Oak's downtown. Here's what's being planned.

ROYAL OAK, MI — The Royal Oak Downtown Development Authority has closed on a deal to sell an undeveloped 4.15 acres on the south end of Main Street near the Woodward/I-696 corridor for $2.5 million dollars.

According to DDA officials, Singh Development Company bought the last undeveloped parcel in Royal Oak’s downtown district and plans to build a mixed-use, multi-story building comprising 240,000 square feet of residential and 10,000 square feet of ground level retail space. The project compliments the residential character of downtown’s south end, bringing 225 additional residential units ranging from 550 to 1800 square feet. Construction is estimated to be completed in the spring of 2021.

This is a significant milestone in the project, which has been in the works between Singh and the DDA for nearly two years, officials say. Along with the current large-scale project Rethink Royal Oak, transforming the city’s downtown with a new city hall new city hall, police station, downtown park, private office building and 581-space parking deck, officials say it’s development that symbolizes that Royal Oak is a place where people want to live and work.
