Toddler's Death Sparks Sheriff's Office Investigation

The Pontiac toddler was transported to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak and pronounced dead after she allegedly fell at her home Wednesday.

ROYAL OAK, MI — The March 29 death of a 20-month-old Pontiac girl is under investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. The toddler, who was eventually transported to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak and pronounced dead, sustained fatal injuries from an alleged fall in her home in the 200 block of W. Howard Street in Pontiac.

Deputies were called to the emergency room at at McLaren Hospital - Oakland at 9:49 a.m. Wednesday and spoke with the girl’s mother. She told deputies the child was in the care of her 24-year-old boyfriend when she allegedly fell down a flight of stairs.

The child’s mother returned home after being called by her boyfriend and found the child at the bottom of the stairs. The boyfriend was administering CPR when she arrived, according to Oakland County Sheriff’s Office reports.

The mother then transported the child to McLaren Hospital for medical treatment. After leaving the hospital, deputies spoke with the boyfriend, who was still at the home.

The investigation of the incident is ongoing. An autopsy of the 20-month-old was done Thursday and the cause of death is pending.
