Week Ahead: Arts, Beats & Eats Rolls into Royal Oak

It's a busy week in Royal Oak, as usual. What do you have planned?

Here are five things you should know about Arts, Beats & Eats as you go about your week:

1. Arts, Beats & Eats attendees can help support Royal Oak parks by choosing to park in city-run Arts, Beats & Eats parking lots. Parking at all official downtown lots and structures is $15. The revenue from the official lots supports improvements to Royal Oak parks.  
2. The Detroit Institute of Arts will present the animated film A Cat In Paris for children and cinema buffs alike inside the Oakland County Parks Kids Zone from 8:30 – 10 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. The movie is 65-minutes long.
3. This year Arts, Beats & Eats is teaming up with Oakland County Parks to offer free admission, as well as a special tribute concert for disabled veterans and family members, on Sunday, Sept. 1. The concert will feature 50 Amp fuse on the Michigan Lottery Stage, with a complimentary lunch and beverages from bd’s Mongolian Grill. Interested veterans can contact 248-541-7550 to receive passes.
   
4. On Saturday the Priority Health Zumbathon Celebration will transform the Michigan Lottery Stage into a red-hot, exhilarating dance fitness explosion from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Last year nearly 1200 people participated in a huge Zumba class-style event at the festival.
5. On Saturday the streets of Royal Oak will be filled with hundreds of runners for the Priority Health Arts in Motion runs and walk benefitting Michigan Youth Arts and new non-profit partner Rock CF, a nonprofit dedicated to increasing the quality of life for people with cystic fibrosis.  Last year’s 5K was so popular that this year the event also will feature a 10k run and a 5k walk option for entrants. To register as a runner or volunteer go to: http://www.michiganyoutharts.org/events/5k.
