Hornets JV Crew Team Takes Second at Orchard Lake Regatta
Further races were called off due to high winds.
Saturday marked the start of fall season competition for Saline High School’s Crew team.
Saline joined host team St Mary’s Preparatory along with teams from St. Ignatius (Cleveland), Ann Arbor Pioneer, Ann Arbor Skyline, Detroit Boat Club, Northville, St. Joseph Academy (Cleveland) and Cranbrook to compete at the Head of the Orchard Regatta. Held on the shores of Orchard Lake, the teams were slated to race 6K events around Apple Island on Orchard Lake, however due to windy conditions, the course was shortened by officials for the safety of the rowers.
The Hornets wanted to start the fall season on a positive note after a very successful spring 2011 season and the men’s junior varsity eight boat was able to do just that before the 16 race regatta was called after the sixth race due to high winds.
