Hornets Spike Pioneers, Improve to 5-1 in SEC

Saline's varsity volleyball team defeated Pioneer's in four sets.

Saline's varsity volleyball team improved to 18-9 overall and 5-1 in the Southeastern Conference with Tuesday's four set win at Ann Arbor Pioneer.

Saline won 25-20, 26-28, 25-13 and 25-15.

""I'm happy to get this conference win tonight, it's hard to win on the road," said coach Lisa Shea. "I was pleased with our serve receive because we were able to get into our attack on almost every point."

Shea said that while the team still has work to do on defense, it improved as the night went on.

"In the last two sets, Mackenzie Schumborg's defense kept us in a lot of points," Shea said.

Schumborg had 20 digs to lead the Hornets.

On offense, Ani Agbabian, Jessi Markey and Mackenzie Shand all had 12 kills. Taylor Whitling and Marissa Owen handled the set up duties, with 24 and 21 assists, respectively.

Saline is in action Thursday at Lenawee Christian in Adrian.
