Lady Hornets Earn Victory Over Skyline

A trip to the middle school helped the team remember what they love about the sport.

's varsity girls basketball team snapped a six-game losing skid with a 50-27 win over Skyline Friday.

Saline improved to 3-8 overall. The Lady Hornets are 2-3 in the SEC.

Alli Cope led the Hornets with 13 points. She made three three-point baskets and added four points from the free throw line. Amanda Price scored eight points. Katie Crysler and Cailin Ellis each scored six points. Melissa Needham and Britten Clark each scored four points. Kelsey Pelletier scored three points. Tori MacNeil, Alison Rentschler and Celia Smart each scored two points.

Saline led 14-7 after the first quarter and never let the Eagles back in the game.

"This was a good team win. All 13 girls contributed to the win tonight," said Saline head coach Jeff Waltz.

After a tough loss to Pioneer Tuesday, Waltz and the team visited the middle school basketball program.

"We went there to focus on the basics and to help us remember why we love the game," said Waltz. "We got a lot of encouragement and inspiration from the players and coaches. We realized that we've got a half season of basketball left. It will be what we make of it."

Saline hosts Ypsilanti Lincoln Tuesday.
