Pittsfield Township Recognized For Accounting
A nonprofit association gave the township the highest possible recognition for its accounting practices.

's accounting financial reporting was given the highest recognition by an association that assesses such things.
“Continuing our tradition of fiscal stewardship and excellence, for the first time ever, Pittsfield Charter Township has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United State and Canada for its fiscal year 2010 comprehensive annual financial report,” announced Supervisor Mandy Grewal.
This follows other similar recognitions including a two-step bond upgrade by Standards & Poor in fall 2010, submission and acceptance of the township’s first compreshensive annial financial report and completion of a five-year financial forecasting model in fall 2011.

The certificate is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. The annual report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.
The certificate is valid for a period of one year.

“We believe that our current comprehensive annual financial report continues to meet the Certificate of Achievement Program’s requirements and we are submitting it to the GFOA to determine its eligibility for another certificate in 2012,” said Grewal.
The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago IL, and Washington, D.C.
