Saline Boys Take Third at Legends Invitational

Nick Renberg took first and Spencer Bishop returned from injury and was third.

The Saline Hornets boys' cross country took third in the Legends Invitational held at Huron Metropark Saturday.

Saline senior Nick Renberg was the overall winner, completing the 5,000-meter course in 15:43.80, more than 20 seconds faster than Rockford's Drew Woznick. Saline senior Spencer Bishop returned from injury and had a big race, taking third in 16:08.3.

Coming off Tuesday's emotional victory at the SEC Red Jamboree, coach Carl Spina elected to rest some of his runners.

"I thought we ran well today," Spina said. "We sat a few guys today so that they could relax and be ready for bigger races down the road."

Freshman Logan Wetzel (24th, 16:56) and senior Jonathan Parker (25th, 16:58) scored for the Hornets. For Parker, it was one of his best races of the season.

Another runner who rejoined the ranks was Grant Praschan (40th, 17:11). Like Bishop, he's missed several races while nursing an injury.

"Bishop accomplished lot and bounced back very well. He's right back where he left off. Praschan didn't have a great day, but he's s till a little behind where Bishop is. Praschan's a competitor and he'll be ready when it matters most," Spina said.

Jim Crowley took 51st in 17:21.

"He has had some great practices and has worked hard for a few years, and today he put together a really good race," Spina said.

Freshman Kevin Hall ran his second varsity race of the season and finished 60th in 17:30.

"He is getting some good varsity experience as a youngster," Spina said.

The Hornets will spend the week preparing for next weekend's Portage Invite, which is considered one of the biggest races of the season.

"That will be a good test for all of our guys and our team," Spina said.
