Saline Lets the Horse out of the Barnes
Justin Barnes rushed for 355 yards and five touchdowns against Ann Arbor Huron Thursday.
Senior Justin Barnes had a night to remember at Ann Arbor Huron in Saline's 45-25 victory Thursday. Barnes rushed for 355 yards on 27 carries and found the endzone five times.
Here are Barnes' five TD runs:
- Hornets were down 13-7 late in the first quarter. On second-and-nine from the Huron 38, Barnes charges up the middle for a first down at midfield. On the next play, Barnes plowed 15 more yards for a first down at the Huron 33. On the next play, Barnes run nearly untouched through the middle and went all the way for a 33-yard score. Dylan Mulder's kick made it 14-13 Saline with 14.9 seconds left in the quarter.
- Saline was down 19-14 on Barnes' next touchdown. The Hornets started at their 44 and Barnes started them up with a three yard gain and later kept the drive alive by converting a third-and-two. On first-and-goal from the six, he rushed up the gut for a touchdown. Mulder's extra kick made it 21-19 with 2:52 to play in the half.
- With Saline up 24-19, the Hornets started at their own nine with 8:55 to play in the third quarter. Barnes burst through the scrum and rumbled 38 yards to the Saline 47. That was just the first of three consecutive first down rushes that put Saline on the Huron 20. After a Hunter Leslie first-down run gave Saline a first-and-goal from the six, Barnes rushed in for his third score of the game. Mulder's kick made it 31-19 with 6:56 to play.
- With 5:45 to play in the third, Saline was up 38-19. After a five yard rush by Gage Hammond (who rushed nine times for 101 yards and a touchdown), Barnes rushed for seven, 10, 11 and 13 yards to get out to the 50. After an eight-yard run by Leslie, Barnes had carries of 16 and 18 yards, setting up a first-and-goal from the right. On the next play, he ran right through a hit and scored. Mulder's kick made it 38-19 with 2:19 to play in the quarter.
- With 9:42 to play in the fourth, Saline took possession at its own 32 with a 38-19 lead. Barnes rushed for 18 yards on first down. Two plays later, Barnes rushed for seven yards for another first. Hammond rushed for 13 yards to put Saline in business at the 16. From there, Barnes ran in for the touchdown and a 45-19 lead (after the Mulder TD).
