Two Saline Boats Earn Silver Medals at Grigg’s Reservoir in Columbus
The Saline Crew team has two weeks off before its next event in Wyandotte.
Joining high school, collegiate and masters rowers from eight states in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday, two Saline boats earned silver medals in races against some of the Midwest’s premiere rowing clubs.
Over 500 entries competed in 55 races at Columbus’s Grigg’s Reservoir for a fast and furious day of racing. With morning temperatures in the 40’s that climbed into the 50’s later in the day and winds gusting between 25 and 35 miles per hour, Saline rowers battled challenging conditions and strong teams to win two silvers on the 2.8 mile course.
Men’s pair (senior Mitch Dellot and junior Brad Roberts) started Saline off with a second place finish against college pairs from Denison and Ohio State as well as several high school teams. With a time of 20:07.04, the men’s pair was less than a minute and a half behind Ohio State’s winning time of 18:46.61. Their podium finish was then followed by Saline’s strong showing in the women’s pair with two top five finishes in the ten boat race. Sophomores Haley Pfeiffer and Alexis Wolff placed second at 21:52.65 just off the winning time of 21:48.05 set by Upper Arlington High School and ahead of Case Western Reserve’s collegiate pair who took third place. Senior Katie Stimac and sophomore Gavin Gallagher rounded out the top five with their boat just out of the medals in fifth place.

The Hornets have two weeks off before ending their fall season on Nov. 6 at the Wyandotte Boat Club on the Detroit River at the American Heritage Regatta.
