UAW workers at Saline's Plant will vote on a new contract Friday. The UAW says the deal will secure the future of members working at the plant, keep UAW jobs in Michigan, and allow the prospective new owners, Faurecia, the flexibility to be to keep the Saline plant viable. According to the tentative deal, assemblers and operators will start at an hourly wage $11, moving to $12.50 after one year, $14 after two years and $15.50 after three years. Process techs will make $16-18 hourly. Maintenance workers, electricians and tool and die workers will make $24-26 an hour. Workers will receive a $2,500 signing bonus if the contract is ratified. According to the UAW, the union negotiated to keep the plants open over the years, and that other companies closed or sold off parts plants to companies now paying $9-11 an hour. As part of the at least 600 of the Saline jobs are expected to be moved to Detroit Manufacturing Systems, a new company founded in Wayne County. has also put its Saline union hall on the market and plans to move east.
