Video Story: A New Learning Experience at Saline High School

Thursday, guests visited an open house featuring the Saline High School Senior Capstone Project.

A new educational iniative was showcased at Thursday.

held an open house to show school board members and local business leaders to allow students to talk about the way in which the "new world" class has changed their senior year.

In preparation for the class, teachers and administrator visited the University of Michigan and high-tech business like Google to try to get an idea of what needed to go into a class that would help Saline High School grads be as prepared as possible for an increasingly complex and competitive world.

The came up with the "Senior Capstone Experience," a program that balances English, science and social studies requirements with independent learning, community service and technology-enhanced study.

Local businesses Wireless Zone in Saline and partnered with the school by providing tablets to 70 students.

Classes are taught in college-lecture format. Students spend less time in class than they normally would. Instead, they are in the community doing service projects with local organizations.
