
The Shelby Township Police Department is still accepting applications for the Citizens Police Academy.
The Citizensβ Police Academy offers residents and business owners in Shelby Township insight into how police officers perform their duties and how the Shelby Township Police Department serves the community.
Instruction consists of Six 2 -hour classes held each week beginning October 11th, 2012.Β This instruction is comprehensive, covering two different areas of police service each week.Β Certified police officers and supervisors with particular expertise will conduct each topic.

The Citizensβ Police Academy is held twice a year, in the Spring and Fall.Β The Citizensβ Police Academy is limited to 60 participants per session.Β If you apply and the class is full, your application will be carried over to the next session.Β The Fall 2012 session begins on October 11, 2012 with applications being accepted until October 1, 2012.
Any interested residents or business owners in Shelby Township are encouraged to attend. Citizens involved with the Shelby Township community in some way, such as youth involvement, neighborhood watch, and neighborhood groups are very important to the academy. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older with no prior felony convictions and have no misdemeanor convictions within the last three (3) years. There is no cost to attend the Citizensβ Police Academy
The Citizensβ Police Academy online application is available by going to www.shelbytwp.org and clicking on the Police Department link then on Citizens Police Academy link.Β Applications are also available at the front desk of the police department.Β Instructions for submission are on the application.Β
