Cooking With Nonna: Preparing Pignolata For the Holidays

The family is preparing for the holidays in this Cooking with Nonna as she makes a traditional Sicilian dessert.

In the second , my grandmother, also known as Nonna, shows me how to make her famous pignolata.

The dish consists of bite-size fried dough balls that are slathered in a honey sauce.

Pignolata can be topped off with many different ingredients, but my family likes to add toasted nuts and sprinkles on top.

I've included the ingredients for the dish below, but for a full explanation on how to make pignolata just right, you'll have to watch the pro in the video.

Pignolata is traditionally served for the holidays. The host will put the pinecone shaped dessert on the table after a big meal so that guests can snack on something sweet while enjoying a cup of coffee.

I must warn you though; the little delicacy is dangerous because it's bite-size and very addicting. Before you know it, an hour passes and you didn't even realize you ate the whole dish.

Ingredients:
2 Cups of Durum Flour (can be found at specialty Italian grocery stores)
6 Eggs
12 oz of honey
1 tablespoon sugar
1 Cup of toasted almonds
Dash of cinnamon in honey
Vegetable oil

Enjoy and happy holidays!
