Letter to the Editor: Utica Mayor Urges State to Invest in Road Repair, Public Transit

"The Michigan Legislature has the opportunity to support Gov. Snyder's transportation funding proposal for road and bridge repairs and improvements and public transit," writes Jacqueline Noonan.

Dear Editor,

Across Michigan, leading business organizations and government leaders are urging the Legislature to approve Gov. Rick Snyder’s proposal to fix the state’s crumbling transportation system.

While Michigan’s roads and bridges continue to deteriorate and are among the nation’s worst, other states are investing in road and bridge repairs and public transit options. These investments are generating thousands of jobs and billions in commercial and residential development, including new retail shops, grocery stores, shopping centers, art districts, office and apartment buildings, restaurants, cafes and more.

The Michigan Legislature has the opportunity to support Gov. Snyder’s transportation funding proposal for road and bridge repairs and improvements and public transit. Please ask our state elected officials to focus on increased funding for all forms of transportation and to support the sharing of revenue that local governments receive to help build communities where people want to live.
