Maccarone to Serve as Interim Corporation Counsel

Former Shelby Township Supervisor Skip Maccarone, and past Executive Director of the Macomb County Charter Commission, has been appointed Corporation Counsel.

Former Shelby Township SupervisorΒ Ralph β€œSkip” MaccaroneΒ has been asked byΒ Macomb County Executive Mark A. Hackel to serve as interim Corporation Counsel.

Maccarone will serveΒ until a permanent appointment has been confirmed by the Macomb County Board of Commissioners.Β Hackel has nominatedΒ Gabriel Orzame to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of the county’s current Corporation Counsel George Brumbaugh.

β€œGeorge will be leaving next week, and even if the Board acts quickly, it will still take some time for the transition to take place,” Hackel said Friday in a release. β€œThe County is required to have a Corporation Counsel and because of his knowledge of County government and the charter, I thought he would be an ideal choice.”

According to the release, the Board of Commissioners has 75 days to complete the confirmation process for Orzame. A confirmation schedule has not been established.

Maccarone will assume the interim post when Brumbaugh leaves office onΒ July 26, according to the release.

Maccarone, whoΒ is a private practiceΒ attorney and served as the Executive Director of the Macomb County Charter Commission,Β also served as the first independent legal counsel to the Board of Commissioners once the charter became effective in January 2011. He served as Shelby's supervisorΒ  from 2000 to 2008.

β€œSkip is well versed in the charter and he has excellent working relationships in the county’s legal community,” Hackel said. β€œI don’t know if he will be in the position for a few weeks or a few months, but he’s indicated that he has the flexibility to take on the assignment.”
