Air Quality 'Unhealthy' For Some Tuesday: MDEQ

People with lung diseases or other lung issues should avoid prolonged outdoor exposure on Tuesday.

METRO DETROIT, MI — With high temperatures rising into the mid 80s Tuesday, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality says the air quality around metropolitan Detroit could put pollutants into the unhealthy range for some groups with sensitivities. Other heavily populated areas in the state such as Flint, Grand Rapids and Lansing will be in the moderate range.

When air quality warnings are in effect, active children and adults, and people with respiratory diseases such as asthma, are encouraged to limit prolonged outdoor exertion. People and businesses are urged to avoid activities that lead to ozone formation, including refueling vehicles or topping off when refueling, using gas-powered lawn equipment and using charcoal lighter fluid.

Temperatures are expected to stay in the mid to upper 80s all week. People with respiratory issues can get a daily look at air quality through the MDEQ. More information is available here. Air quality is expected to be in moderate range in the Detroit area on Wednesday and Thursday.
