First Snow This Weekend?

Forecasters are saying Metro Detroit's first snowflakes could fall early Sunday morning.

Less than a week after hitting highs near 80 degrees, southeast Michigan could be in for its first flakes of snow this weekend, according to the National Weather Service. Conditions will be primed for both Saturday and Sunday nights.

The high is expected to reach about 53 on Saturday with showers mainly before 2 p.m. But the National Weather Service predicts that showers will return late Saturday night into early Sunday morning with temperatures getting down to a chill 36 degrees.

CBS Detroit-TV Meteorologist Karen Carter predicts that first snowflake will hit the ground sooner rather than later. “Saturday night is when we could see a few snowflakes, if the upper air does get cool enough,” she said.

The National Weather Service begs to differ. Forecasters say there will be a chance of rain showers after 8 p.m. on Sunday, but it will mix with snow after 4 a.m. Monday morning.

Whenever does hit, it will not stick. Highs for both Sunday and Monday are predicted for the upper 40s.
