Harper Charity Cruise Rolls On Aug. 30

St. Clair Shores will host the annual Harper Charity Cruise next week.

ST. CLAIR SHORES, MI — Just because the festivities along Woodward Avenue have concluded doesn’t mean cruising season is over in metropolitan Detroit. On Aug. 30, the Harper Charity Cruise will roll between 5-9 p.m.

The Shorewood Kiwanis is hosting the event. Funds raised by the organization will go for the Special Needs Children’s Day at the Ice Show, the Special Needs Fishing Derby, Michigan Kiwanis Foundation, and charitable causes in St. Clair Shores, among others.

The cruise will be held on Harper Avenue from Old Eight Mile Road to Bayside. Those wish to cruise do not need to register their car — just show up and ride, according to the Kiwanis. Macomb Community College is helping organize the event and Roy O’Brien Ford is sponsoring it.

While the Harper Charity Cruise has been around for more than two decades, the Shorewood Kiwanis took on the responsibility of organizing it in 2005. Attendance has grown since then, including an excellent 2016 turnout, according to the Kiwanis.
