Spranger Asks Schuette To Investigate Latest Macomb County Flap
Clerk Karen Spranger asks Attorney General Bill Schuette to investigate the county's move of files to a warehouse facility.

MACOMB COUNTY, MI — Macomb County Clerk Karen Spranger has asked Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette to investigate whether the transfer of more than 200,000 county circuit court files to a warehouse facility without her permission was lawful. The files were moved as part of renovations being made to county facilities. Macomb County Attorney John Schapka says the move was legitimate and that Spranger and her staff can have access to the files — if they follow proper procedures.
“Miss Spranger has not undergone the security screening,” Schapka said. “All employees who go to the warehouse or are at the warehouse have to go through. It’s standard procedure. The files are safeguarded in a secured facility owned and operated by the county.”
“What occurred is the latest act of petty disrespect to Clerk Spranger as the elected Clerk of Macomb County, but also the activity appears to have crossed more serious lines,” Spranger attorney Frank Cusuman wrote in a letter to Schuette.
