St. Clair Shores Council To Receive Raise

A deadlock vote means St. Clair Shores council members and the mayor will receive about $200 more each a year.

While most elected bodies struggle to vote themselves a pay raise, St. Clair Shores council found a novel way around that. When the vote on the increase came up late last year, the council deadlocked 3-3 on a motion to decline the increase. With the deadlock, the motion carried based on council rules, and the St. Clair Shores council members will get a 2 percent pay increase, their first in more than ten years.

“We don’t need it,” Mayor Kip Walby told the Macomb Daily. “St. Clair Shores is doing fine financially, but we are always watching our pennies, nickels and dimes.”
