Venetian Festival Starts With a Kayak Race and Ends With Illuminated Boats

A triathlon, free games and food for families, a dinghy poker run, live music, a charity casino night and decorated vessels are among the events planned for the Venetian Festival on the Nautical Mile.

A full day of events from sun up to sun down are planned along the Nautical Mile Saturday for athletes, families and those who like to play games of chance.

Events planned include:

  • The annualΒ Shores-PointesΒ AdventureΒ Triathlon, which includesΒ a kayak, run and bicycle competition starts at 7 a.m. Saturday at Blossom Heath Park.
  • Free sno-cones and cotton candy,Β pirate bounce house, interactive tee-ball, basketball challenge and boom blasters kid’s midway games fromΒ noon -Β 4 p.m. Saturday atΒ Mastro’s Ice Cream.
  • DinghyΒ PokerΒ Run starts atΒ 10 a.m. Saturday atΒ Ken’s Gas Dock, Michigan Harbor Marina.
  • DetroitΒ ArtistΒ Association will be displaying their works fromΒ noon - 8Β p.m. Saturday on theΒ south side of Jefferson Beach Yacht Sales.
  • Live entertainment withΒ RayΒ FoggΒ from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. Saturday in a big tent behind Rojo’s Mexican Bistro.
  • The Kolping Center will host Charity Casino Night fromΒ 7-11 p.m.Β atΒ the Kolping CenterΒ on Jefferson Avenue. All proceeds willΒ go to Wigs 4 Kids.
  • VenetianΒ NightΒ ofΒ LightsΒ inΒ theΒ Marinas, a decoratedΒ boatΒ lightingΒ competition,Β will be heldΒ fromΒ 8 -Β 10 p.m.Β SaturdayΒ at HarborΒ 9Β Marina,Β EmeraldΒ CityΒ Marina,Β JeffersonΒ BeachΒ Marina,Β MillerΒ  MarinaΒ andΒ ShoreΒ ClubΒ Marina. Individuals can stroll through the marinas to view uniquely decorated vessels.
