St. Philip Lutheran Hosts One-Day Vacation Bible School
St. Philip Lutheran Church and its Perennial Waters Project Inspire Caring for Creation
Vacation Bible School is a summer children’s tradition of many denominations that includes telling bible stories, singing, making crafts, playing outdoor games, and enjoying tasty snacks. St. Philip Lutheran Church in Trenton and its Perennial Waters Project hosted a successful evening Vacation Bible School on Wednesday, July 19th focused on caring for Creation.
In total, 16 children and one infant participated. Children learned about faith through fun, age-appropriate activities. The evening included a short children's bible story on caring for God’s creation, a craft that allowed children to create a flower with a unique prayer for each child, and music that included camp songs. There were also outdoor games and a visit to the church's pollinator and rain gardens where a fun game was played that traced the migration of monarch butterflies from Michigan to their overwintering habitat in Mexico and back again to Michigan. All activities reinforced that God trusts us to take care of the earth and every living creature on the earth. As the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America states, it is God’s work and our hands, including the hands of children.
“It is such a blessing to share God's love with children from St. Philip Lutheran Church, our Preschool, and the community,” noted Patricia Hartig, Vacation Bible School organizer. “It was such a fun evening and we look forward to hosting more events in the future that grow children's faith, are fun, and create lasting friendships.”
