Trenton & Downriver Area Soroptimists Receive Memorial Donation

The family of former Soroptimist International of Wyandotte-Southgate-Taylor Chapter member, Barbara Heston, fulfilled her wish that in lieu of flowers, donations would be for Soroptimist International. Mrs. Heston’s daughters, Kelly Dwyer and Heidi Umin, presented a $2670 check to Trenton and Downriver Area Soroptimists.

Mrs. Heston was a long-standing, active member of the Wyandotte-Southgate-Taylor Chapter, serving as a director and treasurer for six years. She attended several conferences and conventions; hosted national clubs; and raised over $25,000 for women’s charities and $4000 for women’s scholarships.

Barbara was awarded the Soroptimist International Woman of Distinction and was also named the Soroptimist of the Year. Her fondest memories of her many years as a Soroptimist were of the friendships she had made.

The generosity and tribute of the donation in her honor will be used for the many causes to help women and girls of the Downriver area.
