Council Approves Resolution Limiting Public Comment During Meetings

Public comment time limit will be reduced from five minutes to three, among other changes.

Troy City Council to approve several revisions to the 2011-2012 City Council Rules of Procedure, which includes limiting the amount of time individuals may speak during public comment.

Revisions include: changing the time limit for public comment from five minutes to three, separating public comment on agenda items from public comments on non-agenda items, and requiring those who wish to make a public comment to sign up to speak within thirty minutes before or within fifteen minutes after the meeting’s start time.

Public comment for items on the meeting agenda will take place after public hearings (Agenda item F), and public comment for items not on the meeting agenda will take place after memorandums and future council agenda items (Agenda item L).

The new Rules of Procedure will take effect at the next regular Troy City Council meeting on Sept. 10. To view the changes, please see the attached PDF file.
