Troy Council Approves Resolution Supporting Efforts to Ban K2/Spice Statewide

Troy City Council unanimously passed a resolution Monday evening supporting the statewide ban of , a dangerous synthetic substance marketed as an alternative to marijuana. Council .

“The manufacturers of these products should be ashamed of themselves," said Troy Mayor Janice Daniels, who first brought the resolution before council on June 4.

Councilman Wade Fleming moved to adopt the resolution before reading aloud. "This needs to be read," he said. Mayor Pro Tem Maureen McGinnis then seconded the motion.

While several neighboring communities have banned the sale of K2 and Spice, it is still technically legal in Troy, though

“This stuff is detrimental to the health of our kids. We as a community need to do whatever it takes to eradicate it," Councilman Dave Henderson said during the .

In Troy alone, police have recently responded to a report of a after smoking K2, arrested a 19-year-old and discovered a teen .
