Crash Kills Ontario Woman In Troy

A Canadian woman was killed early Sunday after a crash on I-75.

TROY, MI — A 27-year-old woman from Ontario, Canada was killed in the early morning hours of Sunday on southbound I-75 near Crooks Road, according to Troy Police. Cassandra Hunter of Innisfil was killed when her 1984 Mazda R7A was rear-ended at about 1:30 a.m. The vehicle, which immediately caught fire, was driven by a 29-year-old man, also from Innisfil.

Both Hunter and the man were transported from the scene to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital. Hunter died hours after the crash at the hospital, Troy Police stated in a news release. The driver is presently in serious condition at Royal Oak Beaumont.

A 35 year old Warren man, who was allegedly driving a 2002 F-150 that struck the Mazda, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drunk driving. The crash occurred just south of Crooks Road. The driver of the F-150 was treated on scene by Alliance Mobile Health.

Both occupants of the Mazda were wearing seatbelts. The vehicle was not equipped with air bags. The occupants of the Mazda were in the area for the Woodward Dream Cruise, according to Troy Police.
