Drunken Driving, Driving Under the Influence Incidents: March 22-26

The following information about recent incidents of drunken driving and driving under the influence is taken directly from the most recent Troy Police Department media release. Note: In Michigan, the blood alcohol content legal limit is .08 percent.
Dequindre Rd. and E. Big Beaver Rd., 9:49 p.m. on March 22: A Troy Officer was dispatched to the area after a citizen reported a car that was swerving all over the roadway. The officer located the car and activated the patrol car's emergency lights. The suspected drunk driver struck one curb and ran over another before coming to a stop. The driver spoke very slowly and seemed confused. When she exited her car, the 53-year-old Sterling Heights resident was swaying and unsteady on her feet. She stated that she had taken two prescription sleeping pills. After failing sobriety tests she was arrested for operating under the influence of drugs. A blood test was administered.
Interstate-75 and Adams Rd., 3:19 a.m. on March 23: Troy Officers stopped a vehicle that was repeatedly crossing lane markers. The driver, a 41-year-old woman from Bloomfield Hills, had bloodshot eyes and smelled of intoxicants. She failed sobriety tests and was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .11 percent.

W. 14 Mile Rd. and Stephenson Hwy., 3:02 a.m. on March 24: Troy Officers observed a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Stephenson. They stopped the vehicle and found that the driver smelled of intoxicants, had very bloodshot/glassy eyes and poor balance. The 43-year-old Clarkston woman was arrested for operating while intoxicated after she failed sobriety tests. Breath test results were .14 percent.
Interstate-75 and Adams Rd., 11:53 pm on March 24: Troy Officers stopped a vehicle after they noted it was not maintaining its lane and was repeatedly crossing lane markers. The vehicle smelled of both marijuana and intoxicants. The driver, a 27-year-old male from Pontiac, had very poor balance and extremely bloodshot/glassy eyes. After failing sobriety tests he was arrested for operating under the influence of drugs and driving while license suspended. A blood test was administered and results are pending.

Rochester Rd. and Bishop Dr. 1:32 a.m. on March 25: A Troy Officer stopped a vehicle after observing it make an illegal turn and then swerve several times. The driver smelled strongly of intoxicants and had glassy/watery eyes. The 32-year-old Garden City man failed sobriety tests. Marijuana and narcotic paraphernalia were found in his vehicle. He was arrested and charged with operating while intoxicated, possession of marijuana and possession of narcotic paraphernalia. Breath test results were .15 percent.
Interstate-75 and Crooks Rd., 2:16 p.m. on March 26: A Troy Officer observed traffic in the right lane of southbound I-75 was moving very slowly and then noticed other drivers pointing out a vehicle to him. The vehicle was traveling very slowly and weaving onto the shoulder of the freeway and over lane dividers. The officer stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver who he found talked very slowly. She stated she had taken prescription anti-anxiety medication. The 52-year-old Waterford resident performed poorly on sobriety tests and was arrested for operating under the influence of drugs. A blood test was administered; results are pending. In January of this year she was arrested by a neighboring police department for a similar offense.Â
Rochester Rd. and Owendale Dr., 3:56 p.m. on March 26: Troy Officers observed a vehicle strike the curb then continue driving north on Rochester weaving in both the center and far right lanes. They stopped the vehicle and noted that the driver had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and smelled of intoxicants. The 49-year-old male from Rochester stated he was returning from the casino where he had consumed four beers. After failing sobriety tests, he was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .11 % percent.
