Drunken Driving, Driving Under the Influence Incidents: April 17-18

The following information about recent incidents of drunken driving and driving under the influence is taken directly from the most recent Troy Police Department media release. Note: In Michigan, the blood alcohol content legal limit is .08 percent.
Driving Under Influence of Alcohol/Drugs
John R. Rd. and E. Big Beaver Rd. at 9:58 p.m. on April 17: Troy Officers were dispatched to the area after a concerned citizen reported a suspected drunk driver southbound on John R. The caller stated the suspect vehicle was driving half in the left lane and half in the right lane. Troy Officers located and stopped the suspect vehicle. The driver’s movements appeared very slow and sluggish. She admitted to smoking marijuana. Officers discovered her driver’s license was suspended and she had three outstanding warrants for her arrest. After the 18-year-old Lapeer resident failed sobriety tests and she was arrested for operating under the influence of drugs” and driving while license suspended. A blood test was administered and results are pending.
E. Maple Rd. and Dequindre Rd. at 12:45 a.m. on April 17: Troy Officers stopped a vehicle that was weaving, making abrupt steering corrections and drove on the lane divider. The driver, a 28-year-old Sterling Heights resident, said he had taken anti-anxiety medication, prescription pain reliever, and had smoked marijuana a few hours prior. After failing sobriety tests, he was arrested for operating under the influence of drugs. A blood test was administered; results are pending.

Rochester Rd. and E. South Blvd. at 8:09 p.m. on April 17: A Troy Officer was dispatched to the area on report of a hit and run, non-injury accident. The driver whose vehicle had been struck stated that a car had hit his vehicle twice then drove over the grass and left the scene. The driver followed the car that had hit his vehicle and saw the car pull into a parking lot and strike a second vehicle. Again, the car kept going. The reporting driver stated he watched as the at-fault driver, parked his car in the same parking lot where the second accident occurred and fell asleep. The Troy Officer arrived on the scene and after speaking with both of the drivers, whose vehicles had been struck, knocked on the window of the at-fault vehicle and woke up the driver. The driver smelled very strongly of intoxicants, had very glassy eyes and had poor balance/difficulty walking. The 42-year-old male’s speech was extremely slurred. A nearly empty fifth of vodka was found on the front passenger seat of his car. The Troy resident was arrested for operating while intoxicated, failure to stop at an accident and open intoxicants in a motor vehicle. Breath test results were .31 percent; nearly four times the legal limit.
E. Big Beaver Rd. and Rochester Rd. at 2:05 a.m. on April 18: Troy Officers stopped a vehicle they observed repeatedly swerving. The driver had marijuana residue on his lap and admitted to having just smoked marijuana at a friend’s house. A controlled substance, which the driver stated he did not have a prescription for, was found in the driver’s pants pocket. Marijuana and narcotic paraphernalia were located in his car. The 19-year-old Troy resident failed sobriety tests and was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and operating under the influence of drugs. A blood test was administered and results are pending.
