Drunken Driving, Driving Under the Influence Incidents: March 28-31

The following information was obtained from the Troy Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following information about recent incidents of drunken driving and driving under the influence is taken directly from the most recent Troy Police Department media release. Note: In Michigan, the blood alcohol content legal limit is .08 percent.

Stephenson Hwy. and E. Maple Rd. at 1:54 a.m. on March 28: A Troy Officer stopped a vehicle that he had observed speeding (65 m.p.h.) and failing to stop for a red light in a turn-around. The driver had very glassy eyes and there was a strong aroma of intoxicants coming from her vehicle. The 20-year-old Warren woman failed sobriety tests. She was arrested for operating while intoxicated and breath test results were .19 percent. 

Interstate-75 and Adams Rd. at 12:03 p.m. on March 28: Troy Officers were dispatched to the area when a concerned citizen reported a suspected drunk driver. An officer located the vehicle, confirmed it was being driven erratically and performed a traffic stop. The driver had slurred speech and very constricted pupils. The 31-year-old Davison man stated he had taken a prescription controlled substance used to treat addiction to opiates. He had poor balance and was unsteady on his feet. After failing sobriety tests, he was arrested for operating under the influence of drugs. A blood test was administered and results are pending.

E. Big Beaver Rd. and Livernois Rd. at 11:08 p.m. on March 29: A Troy Officer stopped a vehicle for speeding and improper lane usage. The vehicle smelled of intoxicants and marijuana and the driver had slurred speech and red, watery eyes. Marijuana, a marijuana pipe and a half full bottle of vodka were found in the vehicle. The 22-year-old West Bloomfield man failed sobriety tests was arrested for operating while intoxicated, open intoxicants in a motor vehicle, possession of marijuana and possession of narcotic paraphernalia. A blood test was administered and results are pending.

Crooks Rd. and W. Maple Rd. at 1:42 a.m. on March 30: Troy Officers observed a vehicle approach a red light at a high rate of speed. It did not appear that the vehicle was going to stop for the red light. The vehicle came to an abrupt stop, well past the stop bar and partially in the intersection. Officers stopped the vehicle and noted that the driver smelled of intoxicants, had slurred speech and very bloodshot/glassy eyes. The 23-year-old Livonia woman had poor balance and failed sobriety tests. She was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .11 percent.

Interstate-75 and Crooks Rd. at 3:31 a.m. on March 31: A Troy Officer observed a vehicle that was unable to maintain its lane of travel and was repeatedly crossing lane markers. At one point, the vehicle almost side swiped another vehicle forcing the other vehicle to swerve in order to avoid being struck. The officer stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver, who smelled of intoxicants, had very bloodshot/glassy eyes and slurred speech. The 40-year-old Detroit man had poor balance and failed sobriety tests. He was arrested for operating while intoxicated and breath test results were .16 percent.

Narcotics/drugs

Rochester Rd. and Interstate-75 at 12:15 p.m. on March 31: A woman flagged down a Troy officer and pointed out a vehicle that had rear-ended her car and then failed to stop following the accident. The officer stopped the suspect vehicle and made contact with the driver. The 44-year-old Rochester Hills woman stated she had not stopped because she knew she was not supposed to be driving. The officer checked her status and found that her driver’s license was suspended (24 suspensions) and she had outstanding warrants for her arrest issued by six different law enforcement agencies.

Additionally, she was found to be in possession of a controlled substance (prescription muscle relaxer). She admitted she did not have a prescription for the drug. She was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, driving while license suspended and fail to stop and identify at an accident. No one was injured in the accident.
