Fire Damages Troy Factory

An outside dust collector at Witzenmann USA caught on fire and was quickly extinguished by the Troy Fire Department on April 5.

TROY, MI — A fire damaged a Stephenson Highway factory in Troy on April 5. An outside dust collector at Witzenmann USA, a flexible metal product manufacturer, caught on fire and was reported to the Troy Fire Department at about 12:40 p.m. Firefighters were able to control the blaze to the dust collector before it damaged the main 47,000 square foot building

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation. All of Witzenmann’s employees had exited the building, which is in the 1300 block of Stephenson Highway, by the time firefighters reached the factory, the Royal Oak Daily Tribune reported.

Despite the fire’s containment to the dust collector, smoke did enter the factory. Employees were forced to remain out of the building until it was properly ventilated. Some of the building’s ductwork had to be removed in order to extinguish the fire. No estimate of damage was available, the Daily Tribune reported.
